Sports News Desk: Fortune Barishal has become back-to-back Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions.
They beat Chittagong Kings by three wickets to win the BPL title for the second consecutive time at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday night.
After losing the toss, Chattogram Kings was sent to bat first. They made an explosive start, courtesy of openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Khawaja Nafe. Both batsmen registered half-centuries, setting a record for the highest opening partnership in a BPL final.
In reply, Fortune Barishal reached the target with three wickets and three balls to spare.
Tamim smashed nine fours and a six for his 29-ball 54 and Mayers put away three four and as many sixes in a 28-ball.
However, the dismissals of Mahmudullah Riyad and Mohammad Nabi raised concerns for the team.
Rishad Hossain, displaying remarkable composure under pressure, guided Barishal to victory in the final over, ensuring a successful title defence.
This is the highest successful chase in BPL’s final, surpassing Comilla Victorians’ record of chasing down 175 against the Sylhet Strikers in the final of BPL 9 in 2023.
Barishal were rewarded with Tk, 2.50 crore along with a trophy while Chattogram got Tk. 1.50 for being the runners-up.
