Mizo official “threatens” Assam Congress delegation during visit to Assam-Mizoram border

The Opposition Leader of the Assam Assembly and Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia said a delegation of the state Congress was threatened by a Mizo official during their visit to the Assam-Mizoram border on Sunday.

A delegation of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by Debabrata Saikia, on Sunday visited the disputed Assam-Mizoram border.

The delegation was also joined by All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev during the visit.

While sharing a video, where a Mizo official is seen asking the APCC delegation to leave the disputed place, Saikia tweeted: “Today visited the disturbed #AssamMizoram border area with an APCC delegation headed by me.”

“While we interacted with media one Mizo official came and threatened us, asking us to leave that place,” Saikia said.

Saikia also said it is “very unfortunate” that on Indian soil an official from a state tried to block a delegation that represents the Legislative Assembly of another state.

Assam Congress leader Saikia said Assam Police have been overpowered by Mizoram Police in the disputed land.

Saikia said Assam is on the way to lose the state’s lands to Mizoram due to negligence on the part of the Assam government, led by Sarbananda Sonowal, on the border issue.

Saikia tweeted: “During this govt’s tenure, after #race, the #land of Assam is also on the way of slipping out of our hands!”

Meanwhile, a section of media reported that miscreants pelted stones at the APCC delegation during their visit to the inter-state border. NE NOW NEWS
