Abdul Aziz: Police on Saturday arrested two more people on suspicion of being involved in the murder of prominent Rohingya leader Md Mohib Ullah.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Naimul Haque of the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) identified the arrestees as Abul Kalam, 34, and Nazim Uddin, 35.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of APBn arrested the suspects from Lambashia camp-1 in Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila. A firearm was recovered from their possession, said the SP on Saturday, according to a press release
So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with Mohib Ullah’s murder. Among them, Azizul Haque and Ilias have confessed to the murder in court.
On October 26, a Cox’s Bazar court granted police two days to interrogate three suspects who allegedly took part in the killing of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.
During preliminary interrogation, the trio of Rashid Prakash Murshid Amin, Md Aanas and Nur Mohammad reportedly confessed to being part of the kill squad that raided Mohib Ullah office
On September 29, Mohib Ullah was gunned down by unidentified assailants at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.
Mohib Ullah, the chairman of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights, had come to be known as a “voice for the Rohingya” in the Western media.
The teacher-turned-rights activist was one of the most high-profile advocates for the Rohingyas. He was previously invited to the White House and to speak to the UN Human Rights Council.
