Assam government on Sunday ordered most of the departments to shut their offices in the state secretariat complex for a week after several employees working there tested positive for Covid-19.
Hemanta Kumar Nath: After several employees of the Assam secretariat tested positive for coronavirus, the state government ordered to restrict the functioning of the government departments in the complex by allowing only 11 of those to operate with limited staff.
In an order issued by M Angamuthu, commissioner and secretary of secretariat administration department stated, “There is a report of Covid positive cases amongst the working officials of the Janata Bhawan [Assam Seceratariat], due to which it has become necessary to restrict the functioning of the departments in Janata Bhawan.”
“Only 11 offices and departments shall function with limited staff as per requirement and needs during from July 6 to July 12,” M Angamuth said in the government order.
The state government order mentioned that the chief minister office, chief secretary office, offices of the ministers, home and political department, revenue and DM department, general administration department, secretariat administration department, food and civil Supplies department, health and family welfare department, finance department, offices of the senior secretaries from the rank of commissioner and secretary, will continue their functioning during this period.
“All senior officers from the rank of commissioner and secretary and above shall attend office from Janata Bhawan. Other departments can function from their respective directorates or from field establishment or home,” Angamuthu said in the order.
Assam has so far reported 11,001 positive cases of coronavirus.
Already, a two-week lockdown from June 28 to July 12 is underway across Kamrup Metropolitan district, which primarily comprises the Guwahati city.
The Dima Hasao district administration also announced a two-week lockdown from Monday to check community transmission of the virus.
