Mohammad Suffian: Awoman sub-inspector has accused a sub-inspector of the Khallikote police station in Odisha’s Ganjam district of raping her.
The accused sub-inspector, identified as Silu Dhal, is presently posted at the Khallikote Police Station in Ganjam District of Odisha.
The woman on Monday reached the office of Director General of Police (DGP) and lodged the complaint against Dhal.
The complainant has alleged that the accused established a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage but later refused to marry her.
The victim said that during her training days at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in 2017, SI Silu Dhal proposed to her. However, she did not accept the proposal because of her lower caste.
She claimed that he used to regularly send messages to her on WhatsApp, proposing to her. Later, when she was posted at in Sambalpur, the SI visited her room and initiated a physical relationship with her.
The woman said she kept protesting Dhal’s overtures and was crying all night. When she said that it was a crime to have intercourse without marriage, Dhal promised the woman cop that he will marry her.
After Dhal refused to marry her, the woman, an SI is posted at a different police station, finally approached the DGP requesting his intervention in the matter and initiation of appropriate action against the accused SI.
India Today TV reached out to the Odisha Police DGP for a comment but was unable to contact him.
However, police sources have said that the accused sub-inspector is currently absconding.
