UNB: Saudi Arab will assist Bangladesh in the development of Bhasan Char which accommodates displaced Rohingyas of Myanmar.
The assurance was given by the Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan.
The diplomat came up with this assurance during a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the Secretariat on Thursday.
Later, Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed the development to journalists.
“The Rohingya issue will be resolved through talks with Myanmar,” the minister said, adding that war never brings peace and problems must be resolved through negotiations.
Around 11 lakh Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh following persecution by Myanmar forces.
The displaced Rohingyas are staying at various camps in Cox’s Bazar and Bangladesh government has relocated a portion of them to Bhasan Char in Noakhali.
