NE NOW NEWS: The Tripura government has beefed up security across the state following communal violence in Bangladesh.
Security has been tightened across Tripura, especially along the India-Bangladesh border areas.
Superintendents of police of the India-Bangladesh bordering districts in Tripura have been directed to maintain extra vigil.
Communal tensions have been running high in Bangladesh since last week after “Islamic fundamentalists” in the neighbouring country attacked temples and vandalised Durga Puja pandals.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly been put on high alert to foil any influx from Bangladesh following the communal flare up in that country.
“We have been in touch with the local leaders of Hindu organisations and affiliated bodies with a request not to
make any abrupt reactions over the attacks on Hindu temples during Durga Puja. Necessary arrangements have been made to secure the people of all communities in Tripura and protect their sentiments,” a top official of the state home department was quoted as saying by TOI.
Meanwhile, as many as 29 homes belonging to Hindu families were set on fire by assailants in Bangladesh, media reports claimed.
The houses were set on fire by assailants over an alleged “blasphemous social media post”.
