Sports News Desk: Xcel presents South Asian Pro Boxing Fight Night – The Ultimate Glory will be held on Thursday at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur in the capital.
Bangladesh Boxing Foundation (BBF) with the assistance of the World Boxing Council will arrange the international professional boxing competition for the first time in Bangladesh whereas Indian Boxing Council & Punch Boxing Series and Max Boxing Promotion Nepal will supervise the competition.
T-Sports will be telecasted the competition live from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
A total of 14 boxers from three South Asian nations – India, Nepal and the hosts Bangladesh – will compete in the one-day meet.
Pro boxer Mohammed Alamin along with lightweight champions Sur Krishna Chakma, cruiserweight champions Hira Mia will represent Bangladesh.
Nepal’s six-time national champions Bharat Chand, lightweight champions Mahendra Bahadur Chand and India’s junior cruiserweight champions Harsh Gill will also compete in the tournament.
The details of the meet were disclosed in a press conference at a city hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Boxing Foundation Chairman Adnan Haroon along with Indian Boxing Council President Brigadier PKM Raja and Nepal Professional Boxing Commission President Max Manohar Basnet shared their enthusiasm for heralding the professional boxing night in the country.
“We are bringing professional boxing for the first time in Bangladesh. We want to develop boxing among youngsters across the country through this initiative,” BBF Chairman Haroon said.
“I would like to thank Adnan Haroon for taking the initiative to set up a professional boxing body in Bangladesh. Professional boxing is the next step after amateur boxing. We want to contribute towards the development of professional boxing in the South Asian region,” Indian Boxing Council President Raja said.
The boxers, who will take part in the championship fights, will receive Tk 20,000 while the national boxers, who are participating in their debut fights, will get Tk 5,000.
