NE NOW NEWS: Two regional committees constituted by the Meghalaya government to resolve the border disputes with Assam have submitted their reports to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The panels – one headed by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and another by PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, submitted their reports to Chief Minister Sangma on Wednesday, India Today reported.
Both Assam and Meghalaya governments formed three regional committees each in August this year to resolve the decade-long inter-state boundary row.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the reports related to the joint inspection conducted in the areas of difference in Ri Bhoi district and West Khasi Hills district were submitted.
“The Committees submitted their report after completing exhaustive inspections to the disputed areas along the Meghalaya-Assam border,” Sangma said.
“The Regional Committee, Ri Bhoi District headed by Hon’ble Deputy CM, Sh. Prestone Tynsong submitted their report today as part of the joint exercise with our Assam counterpart to resolve the Meghalaya-Assam border dispute,” he tweeted.
Out of 12 disputes the governments of both neighbouring states have taken six disputes as resolution at the beginning.
These disputes are mainly Tarabari, Gizang, Fahala, Baklapara, Khanapara (Pilingkata) and Ratacherra and these areas fall under Cachar, Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts of Assam and West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi and East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.
