Senior Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain on Tuesday said that the virtual courts can’t run for an indefinite period as it has created crisis for lawyers and justice seekers.
The former chairman of Bangladesh Bar Association also requested the Chief Justice to resume normal court operations.
He came up with the request at a press conference at his house in Bashundhara.
“A frustrating situation has been created due to the natural limitation of virtual court when every day hundreds of cases are filed for online hearing,” he said.
The lawyers don’t get any serial number of those cases from the court that create problems for the lawyers, he said.
Hundreds of cases are filed everyday, most of them due to vengeance, he said adding that many accused are fleeing home to avoid arrest as virtual courts can’t approve anticipatory bail.
The Supreme Court was closed on March 26 to avoid transmission of coronavirus and the virtual courts were initiated on May 11. UNB
