Fourteen more patients have died of COVID19 infections in Assam on Wednesday, taking the state’s death toll to 274 while a total of 2,179 new positive cases have been detected in the state on the day.
Confirming the news of new infections, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his latest tweet on the state’s COVID19 status on Wednesday night said the new cases have been detected out of 36,225 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
“Alert ~ 2179 #COVID cases detected today out of 36225 tests done in last 24 hours,” health minister Sarma tweeted.
Assam’s positivity rate stands at 6.01%, Sarma said.
Out of the new cases, Kamrup Metro has reported 531 cases, Dibrugarh 152, Cachar 136, Jorhat 134 and Kamrup Rural has reported 122 cases.
A total of 74,814 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have recovered from the disease.
Assam currently has 21,680 active COVID19 cases while 3 positive cases have migrated from the state.
Assam on Wednesday recorded the highest number of COVID19 deaths as 14 positive patients died of infections.
“Very sad & anguished to inform that 14 more COVID19 positive patients have succumbed to the disease,” health minister Sarma said in an earlier tweet.
The COVID19 victims are from Karimganj, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Nagaon, cachar, Golaghat, Hojai and Kamrup Metro districts.
Karimganj has recorded two COVID19 deaths on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Birendra Kumar Ghosh (75) and Nritendra Chandra Das (75).
Nalbari district has also recorded two COVID19 deaths on Wednesday, The deceased have been identified as Aziuddin Ahmed (39) and Shriram Baishya (65).
Two other patients from Cachar, who died of COVID19 infections on Wednesday, have been identified as Pankajini Sheel (81) and Subhranghu Chanda (76).
The other deceased have been identified as Jitu Chetry (36) of Sivasagar; Rajijul Hogue (62) of Tinsukia; Koh Buraghain (58) of Lakhimpur, Mintulal Dey (71) of Dhubri; Hafizuddin Ahmed (68) of Nagaon; Anu Sharma (75) of Golaghat; Abdul Jabbar (50) of Hojai and Dipak Bhumik (61) of Kamrup Metro.
