Denis Giles, Port Blair: Though the number of corona positive cases in the Islands has come down marginally, but, we cannot be complacent with the marginal decline and as a precautionary measure, the Administration has decided to further extend the lockdown till June 14. This was stated by the Secretary (IP&T), Shri Sunil Kumar Singh today addressing the media persons on COVID-19 status in the Islands in the conference hall of IP&T here this evening adding that unlocking might again give rise to increase in number of cases in the Islands as the priority of the Administration is to protect its citizens and flatten the curve.
The Secretary further said that during the RT-PCR conducted on 400 incoming passengers who arrived here yesterday by flight, 3 positive cases have been detected despite them carrying RT-PCR report from mainland. He further disclosed that 2 flights with 358 passengers arrived today and the RT-PCR reports are awaited. He also stated that during the RAT conducted on 56 passengers proceeding to N&M Andaman at Ferrargunj, all were found negative. He said, that today, 337 beneficiaries were vaccinated in South Andaman District till 3 pm, out of which, 304 were in the age group of 18 plus.
He also addressed the queries raised by media persons on various issues pertaining to COVID management and other issues concerning the people.
The Director, ANIIMS, Dr. AK Mandal disclosed that 40 COVID positive patients are presently undergoing treatment in the Hospital. Today, 4 COVID patients were discharged and 3 new patients have been admitted. He said, out of the 40 patients, 26 patients are on Oxygen and one patient is on ventilator.
The Deputy Director, G.B. Pant Hospital, Dr. Amitabha De said that in the three COVID Care Centres functioning in Port Blair, 4 new patients have been admitted today and 6 persons have been discharged. 8 patients are presently being taken care of in these three COVID Care Centres. Apart from this, 2 patients have been discharged from Wimberlygunj COVID Care Centre and the remaining 2 are being taken care of in this centre. Source: Andamanchronicle
