Meghdeep Bhattacharyya: Bengal on Saturday reported 454 new Covid-19 cases, taking the number of active cases to 5,693, and 12 deaths.
However, 336 patients were discharged on recovery, total number of recoveries rising to 4,542 and the recovery rate reaching 42.45 per cent.
The 454 new cases, till 9am, took the total number to 10,698.
Over 98 per cent of the new cases came from districts with a high volume of returning migrant workers and others.
Calcutta reported 158 fresh infections on Saturday.
The 12 deaths took Bengal’s toll to 463. The state government reported 318 or 68.7 per cent with comorbidity “present”.
“Bengal is 11th in the country in the vital parameter of total cases per 10 million. The confirmed per million rate for Bengal is 110.4, compared to India’s 238.1. Mortality rate is 4.33 per cent, down from 6.01 per cent a month ago. Despite lakhs of returnees from high-incidence states, the average daily growth rate of the infection is around 5 per cent,” said a minister.telegraphindia
