Bangladesh News Desk: This natural barrier, renowned for its resilience, has consistently acted as a protective shield against the cyclones originating in the Bay of Bengal, reducing land damage and loss of lives.
But the cyclone Remal has hit the Sundarbans seriously. The forest department officials have feared seeing the worst damage. They have started to count the worst damage in the Sundarbans in terms of its wildlife. Bodies of wild animals are noticed in different places.
Till 3:00pm on Tuesday, a total of 26 deer were found dead and 17 hurt deer were rescued. Besides, 25 outposts were damaged, and the tidal water powered by Remal entered 80 freshwater ponds.
Sundarbans’ east forest department divisional officer Kazi Nurul Kabir said, “We are unable to visit most of the places. Wild animals take shelter during tidal surge. There was a tidal surge for many hours. As a result, many wild animals are feared dead.” Different establishments including jetties and ponds have been damaged, he added.
Khulna region forest conservator Mihir Kumar Do has informed “The deer luckily survived. But there will be no estimation as to how many deer and wild animals have been washed away.”
