Denis Giles, Port Blair: The Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh while addressing a COVID-19 media briefing in the conference hall of IP&T today, has expressed his concern over people not adhering to COVID appropriate behavior and violating COVID-19 protocols. By doing so they are not only risking their own life but the lives of their family members, he said adding that the figure reveals that per capita violation is maximum and per capita challan made against the violators is also high in A&N Islands. This shows that COVID violations are still continuing and it is not a good sign despite our repeated appeal to all to follow COVID-19 Protocols, he said.
The Administration is fighting a battle against a pandemic which keeps on changing its character, its impact also varies from time to time and it is unpredictable. He has once again urged the people to follow COVID appropriate behavior for their own safety, safety of their family members and the society at large.
Informing about the COVID situation in these Islands, the Secretary said that 5 flights with 267 passengers arrived today (May, 7) and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, only one passenger was found positive. He further informed that 45 persons were tested at Ferrargunj of which 4 persons were found positive at the time of press conference.
About vaccination drive, the Secretary informed that it is continuing and till 4 pm today (May, 7) about 466 eligible beneficiaries above 45+ age were vaccinated. He once again requested the eligible persons above 45+ age to come forward to get vaccinated at the earliest and help the Administration to restrict the spread of corona virus.
The Deputy Director G.B. Pant Hospital, Shri Amitabha De said the number of corona positive patients at present admitted in the G. B Pant Hospital is 80. Out of the 80 patients, 45 are on Oxygen support including 26 in ICU. The Deputy Director further said that altogether, 8 patients were admitted at COVID Care Centres and 56 patients were discharged today (May 7).
