Port Blair: “Swarnim Vijay Diwas 2021” was celebrated on 16th December 2021 to commemorate the splendid victory achieved by Bangladesh over Pakistan 50 years ago, which saw the Bangladesh as an independent nation.
The war was forced upon due to widespread genocide of people of East Pakistan carried out by an oppressive military regime under General Yahya Khan of Pakistan.
To commemorate the occasion a befitting Guard of Honour by the Quad Service Guard was conducted to pay homage to the martyrs of 1971 war, who made the supreme sacrifice upholding the highest traditions of Armed Forces. Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) & Major General Vinay Bhatnagar, VSM (Retd), senior veteran laid wreaths on the occasion. Veterans of all three services from Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Officers, JCOs, Warrant Officers, Chief Petty Officers and Other Ranks were present on the occasion. Every member of the Andaman and Nicobar Command made a silent pledge to steadfastly protect the Nation and uphold its safety, security and integrity against threats and challenges that lay ahead.
