Dhaka Office: Around 100 tons of potatoes arrived in Bangladesh from India through Hili border in Dinajpur on Saturday afternoon.
A truck carrying 25 metric tons potatoes entered around 2:40 pm and then, three more trucks with 75 tons came till this evening.
A firm named M/s Mukta Enterprise imported the potates.
After the import, price of potatoes decreased by Tk 8-10 to Tk 25-30 per kilogram in vegetable markets in Hili.
On December 14 last year, some 5,206 metric ton potatoes were imported from India that came through the land port.
Then, India stopped exporting potatoes to Bangladesh, resulting in a rise in wholesale and retail prices of the item in the market.
Yusuf Ali, deputy assistant officer of Plant Quarantine Station, Hili Port said 52 firms of the port got permission to import 32,000 metric tons potatoes.
