John Wilbert; Savita Kumari, Port Blair: The Secretary IP&T, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, today said that considering the outbreak of the third wave the A&N Administration has taken a lot of measures, including maximum vaccination coverage of islanders.
While addressing the COVID-19 media briefing today at IP&T Conference hall he shared some encouraging figures regarding vaccination which shows that the efforts of the Administration have paid off. A total of 3,61,370 doses of vaccination have been given to the people of islands of Andaman and Nicobar so far (till late afternoon). Among which 2,56,178 people have been given the first dose of vaccine and 1,05,192 have been given both doses of vaccine.
“Among these the healthcare workers, altogether 98% (4918 healthcare workers) have been given first dose of vaccine and 93.31% (4589 healthcare workers) have been given second dose meanwhile the frontline workers a total of 9707 have got first dose and 8913 people have got their second dose, which is 95.45% first dose and 91.82% second does. The coverage is very high and satisfactory too”, the secretary IP&T added.
He mentioned that a total of 1,44,035 people have got vaccinated of 18-44 age group people with first dose and 6,970 people have got second dose.
The Secretary IP&T further mentioned that a total of 97,518 (99.10%) have got their first dose of vaccine and 84,720 (86.88%) have got their second dose of vaccine.
“Altogether four flights with 703 passengers arrived today at Port Blair Airport and all passengers have undergone RT-PCR test, the results for today’s RT-PCR are awaited.
He said that among the passengers who arrived yesterday (Monday), one passenger was found COVID-19 positive at the RT-PCR test.
The Secretary further informed that 305 persons (travelers) bound for N&M Andaman were tested at Ferrargunj in which all persons were tested COVID-19 negative during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and passengers of MV Chouldari were also tested today which was returning from Port Blair to Shaheed Dweep, altogether 66 people were tested in which all were found COVID-19 negative during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and at Mohanpura Bus stand 140 RAT was conducted in which all were found COVID-19 negative and at helipad 06 person were tested in which all found COVID-19 negative.
“At Phoenix Bay jetty, 78 passengers travelling to Swaraj Dweep were tested in which all were found Covid-19 negative during Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas a passengers ship from Rangat arrived today in which total 46 RAT was conducted in which all were found COVID-19 negative”, he said.
“Today altogether 380 beneficiaries got vaccinated by 04:00 PM in which 309 were under the 18-44 age groups who got their first dose of vaccine, ” he added. News courtesy Andaman Sheekha
