Following six days of sunshine, the water level of all major rivers in Assam is receding. But the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam and other neighbouring states in next four days.
Hemanta Kumar Nath: The flood situation in Assam has been improving continuously and the water level of all major rivers in the state is decreasing.
On Tuesday, one person lost his life due to floods in Dhemaji district taking the death toll to 39, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Following six days of sunshine, the water level of all major rivers in the state is receding and the number of people affected by the flood has have reduced.
Nearly 2 lakh people of 13 districts are still affected in the current wave of floods.
Out of the total affected people, nearly 1.20 lakh have been affected in Barpeta district alone followed by 28,800 people in Goalpara, 15,100 people in Dhemaji, 12,700 people in Golaghat and 10,200 people in Morigaon district.
While the water level of many rivers is receding, the water level of Brahmaputra river is still above danger level-mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and at Dhubri in Dhubri district.
The ASDMA flood report said 19,886 hectares of crop lands of 348 villages are still under water and 1673 flood hit people are in 33 relief camps in Chirang, Barpeta, Golaghat, Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts.
