Community News Desk: This year marks the 100th anniversary of the rebellious poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poem ‘Rebel’. On this occasion, the issue is being given priority in the 19th North America Nazrul Conference to be held in August.
The conference is being held under the title of the line of the poem ‘Chir Unnat Mom Shir’. The 19th North America Nazrul Conference will be held August 13-14 at the JMP Arts Center (JMPAC) in East Brunswick, New Jersey. The program will start at 5 pm on that day and will continue till 11 pm. The conference will be inaugurated by the Executive Director of the Nazrul Institute. Zakir Hossain. Raihanul Islam Chowdhury will be present as special guest on the occasion.
Mohammad Kabir (Kabir Kiran), head of Shatdal and convener of the North American Nazrul Conference, said that many famous and talented artists from Bangladesh would come to the event. Many have already confirmed their arrival. Among them are Ferdous Ara, Sujit Mustafa, Khilkhil Kazi, Salauddin Ahmed, Anup Barua, Roman Tithi in Jannat, Shabnam Abedi and others.
He said the conference will include songs, poetry recitations, dances, discussion programs and other events. It has been arranged with different creations of Kazi Nazrul Islam. In addition, Sabyasachi will be given a lifetime achievement award for his recitation. Invited guests and distinguished artists will be crowned and given crests. Kabir Kiran said, “We want the presence of a significant number of people here.”
In addition to New York, New Jersey, people from different states can attend the conference. We invite Shahidul Islam, Consul General of New York and Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington. This time the executive director of Nazrul Institute has been made the chief guest. He will inaugurate the conference. Kabir Kiran further said, In 2016, Shatdal Nazrul organized the conference in New York. Considering the success of that time, the North America Nazrul Conference Committee nominated Shatdal and gave the responsibility to hold the conference again. They are hopeful that we will be able to hold the conference successfully.
The 2021 Nazrul Conference was virtually held in New York. This time it will be done in New Jersey. We have taken all possible steps to make the conference a success. Hopefully, we will be able to make the conference more successful than the 2016 conference.
