Community News Desk: The Bengali New Year 1429 and Eid reunion were celebrated in a festive atmosphere on May 15 organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Mexico City.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional ‘Procession for Wellbeing (Mongal Shovajatra)’, from the Embassy premises adorned with Pahela Boishakh masks, festoons, and banners that circled the road in front of the Embassy. Invited diplomats, members of the local Bangladeshi community, all Embassy officials, and their family members spontaneously participated in this colorful procession.
Ambassador Abida Islam in her welcome remarks wished all the invitees a happy Bengali New Year and Eid Mubarak. Referring to the recognition of UNESCO of the ‘Procession for Wellbeing (Mongal Shovajatra)’ as a World Cultural Heritage, she said that it was a matter of great pride and honor for the Bengalis.
At this time, she called upon the members of the Bangladesh community to preserve the tradition as well as the culture of Bangladesh befittingly on foreign soil.
With the spontaneous participation of all the officials of the Embassy and the members of the Bangladeshi community, a delightful cultural program was organized which created the atmosphere of a mini-Bangladesh in Mexico City.
This joyous occasion of the Bengali New Year and Eid reunion came to an end with the serving of Bangladeshi traditional food items and desserts.
