European Union (EU) and World Bank (WB) delegations visited the Hope Field Hospital (run by Hope Foundation) at Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on September 24, according to a press release.
KM Zahiduzzaman, the country director of Hope Foundation, gave them a warm welcome.
With the delegations of EU and WB, Canadian High Commission to Bangladesh chief aid Phedra Moon Morris, WB senior health adviser Dr Bushra Alam, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Cox’s Bazar coordinator Brigadier General Dr Mohammad Ali, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Bangladesh deputy representative Eiko Narita, UNFPA senior health specialist Dr Dewan Mohammad Imadul Haque, head of the surgery department of Hope hospital Nrinmoy Biswas and others were present during the visit.
They visited different departments including corona unit of the hospital with senior manager Md Showkat Ali and chief medical officer Dr Md Ismail Idris. They also expressed satisfaction with the activities of the hospital.
Rensje Teerink, EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, said, “You must be assured that you have the support of the EU in the Rohingya crisis, it is not a forgotten crisis, and we are here to offer services in the best possible way to ensure dignity, hope and human rights.”
Mercy Tembon, WB country director in Bangladesh and Bhutan, said, “We are glad to see the humanitarian-development nexus in place and running, even despite coronavirus. We see improvements and we will continue to support everyone, both Rohingya and Bangladeshi host communities in maternal health, the well-being of women and their families, adolescents and girls.”
Hope Foundation for Women and Children of Bangladesh is a healthcare organization. An American expatriate physician, Dr Iftikhar Mahmood is the founder of the Foundation. It has been providing quality health services in Cox’s Bazar since 1999. Besides providing medical services to Rohingyas and locals, the hospital upgraded its treatment facilities for corona patients at the beginning of the pandemic. Source: The Independent
