The general secretary of the Mizo Convention (Jampui Hills), Zairemthiama Pachuau has tendered his apology to the Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Debbarman for making inappropriate remarks and for labeling him as “the most communal person in Tripura” on his Facebook Timeline on June 1 vis-a-vis BRU settlement issue.
Tendering his apology, Pachuau said “Labeling the royal scion as the most communal person in Tripura has been inappropriate and great error on my part.”
On June 1, the Mizo leader took to Facebook to criticize the Tripura royal scion over his stand on the BRU settlement issue. He wrote, “Pradyot is the most communal person in Tripura. We don’t accept his ideology. There’s no issue between Tiprasa vs Mizo or any other tribe. The issue is about Mizoram Bru settlement. He tries to communalise this core issue as if it’s a communal issue between Mizos and Brus. The settlement is objected in other parts of Tripura too. He didn’t communalise that. Why then should he communalise it when the objection is raised by Mizos of Jampui Hill. This only proves his real intention was to snatch away our lands and give them to the refugees. But he’s failing.”
In his post, he also called Manikya and his forefathers “coward” and “ignorant” while accusing the royal scion of playing the communal card. He later apologised for making the remarks stating “The inappropriate vocabularies that I used with regards to the ancestors of His Highness and his people. I have great respect to the royal lineages and their subjects, and to their contributions and positive influence on people of Tripura.”
In his apology, Pachuau said that he had no intention to hurt the sentiment of anyone. “If there has been particular issue (s) that hurt the feelings of an individual, a group or a particular community, I seek to emphatise that it has not been my intention to cause hurt and hence I make an apology if it does so. The particular post in question is a personal casual social media (Facebook) post of mine and has got nothing to do with my profession, religion, community and vocation,” he said.thenortheasttoday
