MD ABU TALHA SARKER, Dhaka: Officials of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) said they have decided to start their work in order to resume the unfinished Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after receiving directives in this regard from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon.
As per their decision, the CCDM being the apex body of the domestic cricket clubs will hold talks with their high-ups in the next week to discuss as to how they’ll move ahead with the guideline provided by the BCB and also to talk about the overall issue.
Afterwards, they will sit with representatives and officials of the participating 12 premier division clubs to get assured of the clubs’ interest. Besides, they’ll want to know from the clubs how they’ll take measures to keep players safe and secure amid concerns over COVID-19 cases.
CCDM Member Secretary Ali Hossain made the disclosure to The Independent over phone while replying to a query over resumption of the unfinished premier league.
“We’ll sit next week to discuss as to how we can proceed and how we’ll move forward with the matter,” he said, adding “Already the BCB president gave us a guideline. As per the guideline, we have to inform the board about some important issues. Firstly, we will hold talks ourselves. And then, we’ll sit with the representatives of the participating clubs of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) to make sure of those matters that the board wants to know about from us.”
Ali also said to this reporter, “If clubs show their interests and agree to play the league and if they can put forth their proposal to provide required security to the players, CCDM will then inform it to the board to take further action to get the league underway.”
Earlier, the BCB president said still there remain some obstacles despite their willingness to resume the Premier League.
“A little bit of problems might be arising with regard to resuming the league. We want to start the league, but we need to ensure two things before kicking off the league. Are the clubs interested in playing the league? They have to manage everything – from players to teams – if the league resumes. If they are interested, we have to ensure in which formula it’ll run,” he said.
Papon also said, “We have to know which measures are being taken to protect the players. No question about the players whether they are under our control or that of the clubs. We were talking about it. They are yet to confirm. When we get to know about it, we can take final decision on DPL.”
In addition, BCB is trying to find a way out of resuming the unfinished Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (popularly known as Dhaka Premier League – DPL) although there is an uncertainty of starting the league. BCB has plans to organise a Corporate T20 League, which is thought to be a preparatory league for the next season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the blockbuster domestic T20 cricket tournament in the ensuing December-January window.
The country’s traditional, but the prestigious league was suspended indefinitely after the round-1 in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus that already killed over one million people and infected around 40 millions across the world.
