China has emerged as the largest development partner of Bangladesh as the Asian giant is cooperating with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in building a modern state, speakers said.
Speakers made this observation at a webinar titled “Golden Jubilee of Victory and China’s Contribution in Building Modern Bangladesh” organised by China-Bangladesh Friendship Center Limited (CBFCL) on Saturday.
Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Tajul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest while Former Minister and Political Analyst Golam Sarwar Milon was present as special guest.
The webinar was presided over by Senior Vice Chairman of CBFCL Guo Pei Lin Peter, and was welcomed by Executive Director of CBFCL Dr Fakhrul Islam Babu.
Executive Director of CBFCL Dr Fakhrul Islam Babu delivered welcome speech while North South University Prof Abul H M G Azam presented keynote paper at the webinar.
Prof Dr Azam described historical context of China-Bangladesh trade and social relations.
Economist MS Siddiqui shed light on pre-independence visit of Bangabandhu to China and the steel-solid China-Bangladesh friendship paradigm formed through cooperation after independence.
Freedom fighter and Rotarian Golam Mustafa said that independence of the country was possible as people jumped into the war under Bangabandhu’s great leadership.
Now, China is cooperating with the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in building a modern Bangladesh, he added.
Former minister Golam Sarwar termed China as Bangladesh’s largest development partner.
Representatives of various associations of China and Bangladesh including Chinese Enterprises Association of Bangladesh (CEAB) President K Changliang, ABCA Organising Secretary Dr Nazmuz-Sakib, BCYSA President Maruf Hasan, BAHK General Secretary Ashfaqur Rahman Palash, among others, diplomats from the Chinese Embassy and the Bangladesh Embassy attended the webinar.
