Callous Attitude on Part of Authorities Resulted in Vacancies
Denis Giles, Port Blair: CITU has demanded immediate filling of all vacant posts in various departments under and Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee said that almost all the departments under the Administration have failed to fill up the direct recruitment vacancies available with them during the last few years despite the directions issued by the Administration in the past. He told the Chief Secretary that vacancy position of each department will speak voluminous about the callous attitude on the part of the authorities to fill up these posts when thousands of educated local youths are waiting for a job in the islands.
Drawing the attention of the Chief Secretary, Chandrachoodan said that teachers are not recruited during the past 2-3 years while hundreds of posts of teachers of various categories are lying vacant and the schools especially in the outstations are facing shortage of teachers. He further said that in APWD thousands of posts of mazdoors and other skilled posts are lying vacant and the maintenance works of buildings, government quarters, drinking water supply in rural areas, maintenance of roads, etc are being carried out through daily rated mazdoors throughout the islands. In almost all the departments, large numbers of posts are lying vacant and the authorities show least concern of the sentiments of the unemployed youths, he said.
CITU informed the Chief Secretary that while the posts are kept unfilled, a tendency has developed in the Administration to outsource the regular nature of job to private agencies/ firms/individual contractors which is deplorable and unacceptable to the concept of welfare state.
In the absence of any private sector job creation unlike other parts of the country, youths of these islands solely depend on the government job and any delay in filling up whatever posts available will be an injustice to such unemployed youths of these islands. CITU General Secretary requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary instructions to all the Heads of Departments under the Administration to fill up all the vacant posts in their departments/ organization which will be of immense relief to the unemployed educated youths of these islands.
