Bangladesh logged 15 more Covid-linked deaths with 3,929 fresh cases in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning, showing a downward trend in both fatality and infection rate of the virus compared to that of the previous days.
The daily positivity rate slightly decried to 12.20 percent from Tuesday’s 13.77 percent and Monday’s 13.53 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a handout this afternoon.
The mortality rate of the virus remained static at 1.50 percent for the last two consecutive days while the recovery rate rose to 89.28 from 88.76 a day ago.
On Monday, Bangladesh reported 19 Covid-linked deaths with 4,692 cases, on Tuesday, 34 more deaths with 4,746 cases and on Sunday, reported 28 deaths with 4,838 cases of the virus.
The new cases were detected after testing 32,207 samples at 874 government authorised laboratories in the country during the 24 hours period, the DGHS said.
The country’s recovery tally rose to 17, 16,066 with 12,757 coronavirus patients were released during the same period.
Of the total deceased, 10 were male and five were female and they were aged between 11 and 90 years.
Dhaka division saw the highest five casualties of the virus while Chattogram division saw 4 and two deaths were reported in Khulna, one each in Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylher and Rangpur divisions. At the same time, Mymensingh division did not see any fatality of the virus.
Of the victims, 13 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at deferment public hospitals and two at private hospitals during the same time.
The country registered the highest daily cases of 16,230 with 30.15 infection rate on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264 and cases were 11,164 with 23.54 percent infection rate on August 10 last year.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country again recorded zero Covid-related death on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Since the outbreak of the virus at Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 in the same year.
Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has so far recorded 58, 58, 921 deaths so far caused by the virus and 41, 64, 38, 646 cases worldwide.
