BI Report, Dhaka: Bangladesh registered 41 more coronavirus-related deaths and 7,264 fresh cases in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing an upward trend in fatalities of the virus compared to that of the previous day.
The daily positivity rate of the virus stood at 16.95 percent, 1.88 percentage point down from Wednesday’s 18.83 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a handout this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.52 percent for the last two consecutive days while the recovery rate slightly increased to 86.81 percent which was 86.56 percent a day ago.
the updated official figures, the total death toll of the virus has so far climbed to 28,744 while the caseload mounted to 18,94,535 in the country.
Bangladesh saw 43 deaths, highest in over four months on Tuesday, and the health authorities registered 43 deaths on September 19, last year with 1,383 cases and the daily positivity rate was 5.62 percent on that day.
The new cases were detected after testing 42,867 samples at 871 government authorised laboratories in the country during the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, the health authorities released 11,046 coronavirus patients from different public and private hospitals at the same time, taking the total number of recovery to 16,44,628.
Among the new deceased, 27 were men and 14 were women and they were aged between 21 and 100 years.
During the period, Dhaka division saw the highest 22 Covid-linked deaths, while six deaths were reported in Chattogram, five in Rajshahi, three each in Khulna and Rangpur and two in Sylhet divisions.
Besides, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions did not see any casualty of the virus during the 24 hours period, the DGHS said.
Of the victims, 36 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at deferment public hospitals, five at private hospitals during the same time.
The country registered the highest daily cases of 16,230 with 30.15 infection rate on July 28 last year, while the highest number of daily fatalities was 264, cases 11,164 with 23.54 percent infection rate on August 10 last year.
On December 9 last year, Bangladesh logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country again recorded zero Covid-related death on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Since the outbreak of the virus at Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 in the same year.
Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has so far recorded 57, 97, 859 deaths so far caused by the virus and 40, 41, 44, 841 cases worldwide.
