John Wilbert, Port Blair: In Shaheed Dweep the floating Jetty placed for the tourists on the Bharatpur Beach, is in pathetic condition because of no maintenance by the concerned department. This jetty has become a potential threat for visiting tourists, complained tour operators.
A local tour operator told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the floating Jetty is only option for tourists to reach small dinghies for various water sports activities during low tides but it has no railing and many pieces are broken, which can cause serious injuries to tourists.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily asked Sunil Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary IP&T regarding this concerned issue he replied that maintenance work of floating jetty is taken care by Port Management Board and IPT Department has already intimated to PMB and as soon as possible floating jetty damages will be repaired.
