NE NOW NEWS: The Gauhati high court has given its nod to the decision of the Assam government to remove Assamese as a paper for the combined competitive examination (CCE) held by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
The Gauhati High Court pronounced this decision while hearing a plea from a section of APSC CCE aspirants who requested for removal of Assamese paper from the exam.
With the pronouncement of this judgement, the new norms that were laid down by the Assam government for APSC CCE will come into effect from the next examination.
The Assam Cabinet, in a meeting recently, approved changes in the APSC Combined Competitive Examination (CCE).
The Assam cabinet decided to “remove language barrier in civil service exams conducted by the APSC”.
An official statement stated: “English and Assamese papers to be withdrawn subject to fulfilment of 3 conditions: candidate must be resident of Assam, name registered in employment exchange of Assam, must be fluent in speaking Assamese or other recognised languages of Assam.”
