Bangladesh News Desk: Japan has been the biggest contributor in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh since the establishment of our bilateral diplomatic relation and is one of the countries who recognised Bangladesh just after the independence, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
The minister made the remark during a webinar titled “Celebrating 50 Years of Japan Bangladesh Friendship and looking forward to a prosperous future.”
Hasan Mahmud also expects that Japanese investment in Bangladesh will grow more and more as a special economic zone is ready at Araihazar of Narayangonj and urged Japan to take a special zone under Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar at Mirersarai.
Presided over by Mahbubul Alam, president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the programme was also addressed by Ito Naoki, Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affair Secretary (East) Ms Mashfee Binte Shams, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Shahabuddin Ahmed, Teruo Asada CBE, chairman, Japan-Bangladesh Committee for Commercial and Economic Cooperation from Tokyo, Japan.
The weabiner also joined by Kazuya Nakajo, executive vice president of JETRO HQ in Tokyo, Japan, Hikari Kawai, president of Japanese Commercial and Industry Association in Dhaka and Asif A Chowdhury, president of JBCCI.
Yuji Ando, country representative of JETRO Dhaka and Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun), secretary general of JBCCI moderated the programme.
Among others Tarafder Md Ruhul Amin, senior vice-president, directors Md Ahid Siraj Chowdhury (Swapan), Engr Iftekhar Hosen and Mohammed Nasirul Alam of the chamber, according to a press release.
