It is expected that the current zone of the gas field will continue gas production for next several years, says the ministry
Bangladesh News Desk: The Sylhet Gas Fields Limited authorities have said that it will be possible to supply 17 to 19 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) to the national grid by May 10 from a newly-discovered well of “Kailashtila”.
So far, seven wells have been drilled at the Kailashtila gas field, an official release of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said on Monday.
“Of these, 29 mmcf of gas is being produced daily from two running wells and supplied to the national grid,” the release added.
A discovery of the gas and 187 barrel of condensates has been confirmed through a work-over process by logging, perfection and testing in the lower gas sand zone of the Kailashtila gas field, according to UNB.
“It is expected that the current zone of the gas field will continue gas production for next several years,” the ministry said in the statement.
The remaining recoverable gas reserve in the Kailashtila field is 758 billion cubic feet which could be gradually produced through different wells.
State Minister Nasrul Hamid said that the gas exploration activities were increased while initiatives were taken to conduct both horizontal and vertical drilling.
It would yield more results if deep drillings were conducted, he added.
The Koilashtila gas field is one of the five gas fields purchased by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
