Pineapples from Tripura got buyer in Dubai through digital agriculture platform

In pursuant to the Common Service Centre (CSC), initiated by Digital Agriculture platform under the banner of Digital India, pineapples from Tripura got a buyer in Dubai.

While last year the state exported a huge consignment of pineapples to Dubai, it was facing a major crunch due to the lockdown. However, with the initiative of CSC, it has now got a buyer in Dubai.

Sharing the news, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the farmer who used to sell pineapples in local markets at very low price has got a very good and attractive price for their produce.

The farmer who used to sell pineapples in local markets at very low price has got a very attractive price for his produce’.

Tripura’s ‘Queen’ or Queen Pineapple was declared ‘state fruit’ by President Ramnath Kovind in 2018. The ‘Queen’ variety pineapples are exquisite variety of fruit, known for being juicy and sweet. Pineapples are one of the major fruit crops in terms of area and volume of production in the state.

Earlier, as reported by The Indian Express, the pineapple growers were facing a tuff time due to the coronavirus induced lockdown with no workers available, and partly due to a dry spell, pineapple growers in the state were quoted as saying that they are looking towards a grim business.

However, the digital platform CSC initiative came to the rescue of the farmers, as they used to sell pineapples in local markets at very low price and has got a very attractive price for their produce in Dubai.

Last year, Tripura exported 17-tonne consignment of exotic and juicy pineapple to Dubai.

Common Service Centres (CSC) scheme is one of the mission mode projects under the Digital India Programme.

CSCs are the access points for delivery of essential public utility services, social welfare schemes, healthcare, financial, education and agriculture services, apart from host of B2C services to citizens in rural and remote areas of the country. It is a pan-India network catering to regional, geographic, linguistic and cultural diversity of the country, thus enabling the Government’s mandate of a socially, financially and digitally inclusive society.
