AGARTALA: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday announced Rs 1,300 crore from World Bank projects for the development of tribals in the state.
“It is expected that the state would get the sanction within seven to 10 days for sustainable livelihood and infrastructure development in tribal areas,” Sitaraman said.
After her arrival on Friday, she had commissioned as many as 11 projects of Rs 151 crore and reviewed the status of ongoing externally aided projects (EAP).
The major EAPs implemented in Tripura at present include Sustainable Catchment Forest Management in Tripura by JICA, Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project by Asian Development Bank, North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project by World Bank and the fourth one is expected to be included soon, she added.
Sitharaman said the Rs 1,300-crore package would include projects related to development of infrastructure and livelihood options, which will be funded by World Bank for ensuring all-round development in the tribal areas and indigenous people of Tripura.
The minister said two other projects for Tripura of over Rs 21 crore were cleared by the Centre on Friday.
A project of Rs 14.15 crore was sanctioned for widening state highways and Rs 7.4 crore for specific purpose of infrastructure improvement in the capital city under Smart City Mission.
The CM, during his last meeting with PM Narendra Modi in July, had demanded Rs 1,095 crore to implement 71 projects for development of tribals of the state.
