Vikramaditya & John Wilbert, Port Blair: Thanks to BSNL, the Teressa and Chowra Islands remained totally disconnected from rest of the world since last several weeks. Forget about 4G or 3G network in these two Islands people are not even getting mobile signals.
While Prime Minister of India is stressing on Digital India, this is shame that the BSNL, A & N Circle is unable to even keep telecom network operational in remote Islands of this UT.
Situation was same is Katchal Island too but it is learnt that since last few days people of Katchal Island are receiving some mobile network but people of Teressa and Chowra are not so lucky.
Sources said that last time when the mobile tower of Teressa was repaired by BSNL technicians, it again stopped working within a few days and since then there is no mobile network in entire Teressa and Chowra Island.
Worst sufferers are residents of these Islands and specially the Government Servants, who leave their family and go to these remote Islands to serve others.
Many with medical and other emergency needs in their family are unable to contact their family members.
When contacted by Andaman Sheekha on Friday last, Mr. Aditya Jha, the Assistant Commissioner of Nicobar District said that the District Administration of Nicobars has intimated the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) regarding the issue.
“Some Instruments are defected, which will be soon transported in both the islands, we are in direct contact with BSNL and working to rectify it as soon as possible,” he pointed out. He assured that the problem will be solved very soon. News courtesy Andaman Sheekha
