Rahul Singh and Saurabh Singh, Port Blair: The residents of Great Nicobar Islands are already facing several problems due to frequent hiccups in transportation of fuel, LPG Cylinders and even essential commodities from Port Blair to Great Nicobar Island. Now adding to the pain, people of the Island are also now facing problems due to the absence of a female Doctor at PHC Campbell Bay.
People of Great Nicobar allege that as per regulations in a PHC there should be four Doctors from Health Services and two Doctors from NHRM but it is distressing that the PHC Campbell Bay has only one Doctor i.e. Dr. Ambedkar, who is presently managing OPD and General Patients all alone. Pregnant women and many other female patients are facing complications as there is no female doctor available with whom they can share their condition and problems in an unhesitant manner.
Talking to Journalists, some pregnant women expressed serious concern over the fact that there are no proper Ultrasound facility in the PHC and also there is no female Doctor in PHC Campbell Bay due to which Female patients hesitate to visit the Hospital.
Being a PHC, the Hospital Building of Campbell Bay has 30 beds and it is difficult for a lone Doctor to manage both General Patients and OPD all alone.
The residents of Campbell Bay are now requesting the Director of Health Service to depute a female Doctor immediately at PHC Campbell Bay to provide some relief to the female patients of Great Nicobar.
